  Financial Information
  In 2009, Teva posted record net sales of $13.9 billion, up 25% over 2008 sales. Non-GAAP net income for 2009 reached $3,029 million, reflecting a 22% increase compared to the previous year. Non-GAAP fully diluted earnings per share in 2009 were $3.37, reflecting an 11% increase. In 2009, sales in North America reached $8,585 million, up 34% from 2008. Teva holds approximately 22% of the U.S. generic market and 16% of the total market (in volume). Sales in Europe increased 10%, reaching $3,271 million, while sales of the international group (primarily Latin America, non-EU CEE Countries and Israel) totaled $2,043 million, up 20% from 2008.
  Recent Highlights
  During 2009, Teva successfully completed the integration of Barr Pharmaceuticals Inc., which was acquired in December 2008. The integration of Barr enhances Teva's position as the U.S. generic market leader, with total prescriptions increasing from 19% of total U.S generic prescriptions in 2008 to 22% in 2009. The transaction also bolstered Teva's specialty pharmaceuticals business through the addition of Barr's substantial portfolio of women's health products.
  In January 2010, Teva presented an updated strategy and announced its long-term goals of reaching revenues of $31 billion and non-GAAP net income of $6.8 billion, or 22% of revenues, by 2015. Key growth opportunities include generics, the Company's core business, driven by the growing worldwide demand for generic pharmaceuticals; an expanded innovative and branded business; and in the longer term, biosimilars, an evolving market in which Teva is committed to becoming a leading player.
  As part of its efforts to expand its geographic footprint, Teva announced in March 2010 a definitive agreement to acquire ratiopharm, Germany's second largest generics producer, for an enterprise value of euro 3.625 billion. The acquisition will position Teva as the leading generic pharmaceutical company in Europe, increasing its European business from sales of $3.3 billion in 2009 to joint pro forma sales of $5.2 billion. The transaction is subject to certain conditions including relevant regulatory approvals, and is expected to close by the end of 2010.
  In addition, Teva-KOWA Pharma Co. Ltd., Teva's joint venture in Japan with KOWA Company, Ltd., acquired approximately 93% of the outstanding shares of Taisho Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd in December 2009. The acquisition was aimed at furthering Teva-KOWA Pharma in its strategic objective to become the provider of choice of high-quality affordable generic medicine in the Japanese market.
  Further, Teva and OncoGenex Pharmaceuticals, Inc. announced in December 2009 a global license and collaboration agreement to develop and commercialize OGX-011/ TV-1011 for multiple oncology indications. Teva and OncoGenex will collaborate on a global Phase III clinical program, with two Phase III clinical trials expected to be initiated in 2010 and a third to be initiated by early 2011. The agreement will strengthen Teva's branded product pipeline with a promising product candidate entering Phase III trials involving large patient populations.
